Small space re-entry system development Program recently launched

IPERDRONE is the name of the Program led by CIRA and funded by the Italian Space Agency aimed at designing and developing a small space re-entry system, which is able to perform in-orbit operations on the ISS, re-enter the atmosphere and safely land on Earth bringing back unaltered ISS scientific payloads/experiments

The Workshop on the future development of autonomous and remotely-piloted aircraft held at CIRA

The technological objectives associated with the development of the flight of autonomous and remotely-piloted aircraft, the integration of drones in civil airspace as well as the relative methods of use in the several types of mission were the main topics at the "RPAS Flagship Programme" Workshop held on 12th June at CIRA.

The President of SAE International has visited CIRA

Mircea Gradu, the President of SAE International has visited CIRA. The guest were shown the core competencies as well as the scientific and technological capabilities of the Centre, focusing mainly on the activities that CIRA, member of the "SAE Aerospace Corporate", has carried out for years within the context of the association.

New “Made in Italy” thermal protections for future re-entry programs successfully tested at CIRA

The new Italian ceramic material (C/SiC), developed by CIRA in collaboration with Petroceramics, has been succesfully tested in Scirocco Plasma Wind Tunnel. The positive outcome of the test paves the way for Italy's affirmation in the field of structural thermal protection systems also in the frame of the ESA future programs.

CIRA technologies for the VEGA C Interstage

The Manufacturing Readiness Review, held at the beginning of May at CIRA in the presence of the Technical Officer of ESA, officially marked the beginning of the production stage, at our Centre, of the first technological model of the Interstage 2-3 of the new VEGA C European space launcher, the first flight of which has been scheduled for 2020.

The exploration and colonisation of Mars: operational scenarios and national strategy

The presentation of the technological development activities that are necessary in order to achieve the colonisation of Mars as well as the results obtained thanks to the experiments concluded on the International Space Station and on ExoMars were the focus of the event held at the Italian Space Agency and organised by CIRA

QARMAN full-scale spacecraft successfully survived to SCIROCCO test

A test in SCIROCCO Plasma Wind Tunnel facility was successfully performed on the QARMAN CubeSat, a miniaturized satellite developed to demonstrate re-entry technologies. The test executed in the frame of the collaboration between CIRA and Von Karman Institute concerned a complete, full-scale spacecraft.
